Blog 1: An Introduction
Hello! My name is Veep. I'm a senior at Florida State University that will be majoring in Sociology with a minor in education. Some hobbies that I partake in during my free time are longboarding, painting, drawing, writing poems, and playing video games. I am always open to learning new things that will give me a different perspective on life since knowledge is neverending.
When it comes to technology in an educational setting, I had experience with being given tablets and laptops at school. These served multiple purposes such as researching information and providing me a source of information that I didn't have at home for a while and thus made learning throughout my high school career a simpler task than before I had access to these tools. Within the classroom, we had access to a smartboard that we would use for videos, interactive learning, and easier showing of the material. It was through these tools that I was able to understand large amounts of knowledge in an easier format since not only did I have it all at my fingertips, I also had the ability to further research that information if I was ever stuck or confused on a topic.
For my personal learning networks, I use social media and video-sharing software such as YouTube to learn new information. Social media applications such as Instagram provide vital information in a quick manner while at the same time not lacking any important details. As for YouTube, it provides me with a more in-depth look at some important information and provides me a network of knowledge that is expansive and simple to understand. Some offline methods of gaining knowledge that I have are speaking to old high school teachers as well as my fellow peers to exchange information about teaching, education, and the educational system as a whole.
Technology has definitely made going to school a lot easier. Having information right at your fingertips is much more efficient than spending hours in the library looking through the card catalog to find the books. Then once your find the books, you would have to search through the book to find the information you are looking for. Times have definitely changed :P
ReplyDeleteHi Veep thanks so much for sharing this blog post. In an educational setting I also gain most of my experience from utilizing a SmartBoard within the classroom. At the time when this first came out these were new, innovative, and also clunky lol. I think with the improvement of technology it will be pretty interesting to see evolution of classroom technology as time progresses.
ReplyDeleteHi Veep! I like to longboard too; I have a yellow Penny cruiser board! I am glad to know we share a hobby. I also share the same sentiments in my online personal learning network of Youtube and Instagram. Because I do not watch a lot of TV or the news, these are the networks that keep me in touch with the world.
ReplyDeleteHello Veep! I have to agree that YouTube is a great resource that is so expansive! I also use it to gain knowledge in a quick and easy to understand manner. Personally, I use it for crocheting videos.
ReplyDeleteHey Veep! I used to love to longboard as well I really wish I still did! I though it was cool that you had mentioned YouTube as a PLN I truly had not thought of it as that until you said that but I then realized I use to all the time for tutorials and such.
ReplyDeleteHello Veep,
ReplyDeleteI also draw on my free time, and I was wondering what kind of things you prefer to draw? Mine are animals, usually like cartoonish ones, like a cuter panda for my girlfriend or something like that. Glad I got to know you a bit better!
