Blog 10: Interactions with Technology
Some of the skills that I acquired from working on Assignment 5 would be streamlining the process for different buttons and different routes. For instance, for a majority of my slides, there is a Table of Contents button that is placed there for whenever the person using the PowerPoint would like to go back. Instead of having to manually design a new button for each slide and program it to go to the Table of Contents, I simply programmed one, made sure that it was linked to the ride slide, then copied it throughout. To avoid confusion, I numbered each slide first so that I knew which slide was to be connected to which question. Some things that I can improve are making sure that everything is kept entertaining yet informational. I feel like I could've done better with it but due to my limitations on PowerPoint and time itself, I couldn't. However, it was still a very fun assignment.
Data collection is quite important for the classroom. It allows the teacher to understand the concerns of their students as well as to measure any progress for specific topics. A way that I will be using data collection in my classroom is by making a google form that will have questions that students can fill in regards to their own progress, the quality of my teaching, and anything that's not educational that they may need help with. Doing this, it'll allow me to understand where my students are in the class and will let me know what I can do to help them reach their potential and where I can improve.
Something that I found interesting after reviewing my classmate's blogs is that because of our backgrounds, we may have similar ideas but drastically different ways of getting there. Some of them are here for their second degree while others are working on learning as much information as they can. I think it's quite fun to see how different we are from one another and how we continue to bring so much new information to the classroom. I also enjoyed seeing how creative we are with our blogs and our assignments, and how we might have shared similar ideas on how to do certain things or how to overcome certain obstacles that we might have faced with some assignments.
When it comes to tech flex and digital badges, I don't have much experience with those since I don't have much time on my hands nowadays as I used to. There are interesting in nature and I do see their purpose for existing especially with the plus that it provides tokens once you complete four badges. It gives incentives for doing them and it rewards those that need help.
A technology-related skill that I would like to learn next would be knowing my way fluently around an excel spreadsheet. To be more specific, I would like to learn the shortcuts for large datasets as well as how to formulate complex algorithms within the spreadsheet itself. With our present-day becoming more reliant on information and information processing, it is very helpful to both know and understand how to use these programs. This can also help in a classroom setting where I will be able to keep track of hundreds of students and their progress on a statistical level instead of just grades.
