Blog 6: Experiential Explanation
Diigo is pretty interesting software to use. It does not seem to be that advanced when it comes to other educational softwares such as Edmodo, but it does allow for a different form of engagement with a variety of faculty, staff, and students. However, one thing that I do enjoy about Diigo is that it promotes a discussion-type of interactions with those that are part of the group. It allows one to provide an in-depth view of the material or information and view the interaction that the post has.
Blogging is an interesting concept to me since I'm someone that doesn't particularly like placing any type of personal information or thoughts out into the internet. I know that for many people, blogging is a way for them to vent, express themselves, or connect with other like-minded people on the internet, but it simply isn't something that I am interested to put it frankly. However, I have learned that a blog can take whatever form it needs or wants to have in regards to the topic that will be discussed for that said blog. Something else that I find interesting is the fact that people can interact with a blog just like with anything else on any social media platform. As someone's first blog, I just think it's something pretty interesting to have since for those that like it, it allows them to interact with their community.
A web 2.0 tool that I might use when teaching would possibly be Reddit. Reddit is a place that is chock full of information both for students and for teachers alike. There's a large population of diverse groups that provide information to one another as well as give advice in regards to topics that one may need assistance with. As someone who uses Reddit regularly, I find a great deal of interesting information there quite easily since it is split into the respective groups or "subreddits" as they are respectively called. Once one follows a subreddit, they can interact with the posts there, post themselves, or react to a post using an upvote to represent one liking a post or a downvote to represent one disliking a post.
Hi Veep's Place!
ReplyDeleteI share the same sentiments as you about Diigo. I noted in my post how the tool seems a little out dated which can overwhelm users and their initial attempt to utilize it. Similarly, I also explained how I liked its consideration of communication and interaction between students and teachers. By allowing users to annotate and comment on different bookmarks, it creates an efficient sharing environment.
I enjoyed reading your post!
Hello Veep! This is a great post and I enjoyed reading it! I found your thoughts on blogging very interesting, as I lean more towards enjoying blogging. I also am hesitant in what I post into the internet and how much personal thoughts I am willing to post, so I understand your sentiment there. However, I enjoy typing out my thoughts and am willing and enjoy posting about some things and a blog is a great way of doing that. I also often forget the connections to a community blogging brings, so that's a very interesting point about blogging I often forget about!
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI also like Diigo, it allows for interactions with students and teachers, which is nice. I feel the same way about blogs, I usually am hesitant to post my own thoughts, but used in an educational way, I believe it is a great tool. I also like the use of Reddit in classrooms.
Hi Veep!,
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting that you chose to include Reddit as your Web 2.0 tool. I hadn't thought of doing so and I don't think I ever would have considered on my own because it has always been a part of my life as something that is separate from school and education in general. However, I believe you make good points on why it would be an effective tool for your future classroom.
