Blog 7: Technological Teachings

Some of the information that is available through certain school websites is a basic understanding of the lesson plans, the curriculum, what teachers are doing, and what parents can do to help their children at home. There is also the option to see who is participating in the program as well as the different standards that the state itself has placed on the subject and grade levels so that both teachers and parents are able to understand what needs to be taught to the students. Furthermore, there are newsletters for each grade level and in the main languages in Miami so that it is available to as many parents as possible. There is also the option to follow different summer readings so that the students can keep up with the coming year.
I envision myself using technology to not only advance my students' teaching but to also provide them with creative methods to learn information. My goal is for them to not only learn the material but to enjoy learning, thus giving them the desire to keep learning and to keep doing their best. Some productivity tools that I would use would be different software programs like Kahoot where I can create a competition around a book. I would split my class into groups and have them turn the classroom into a small gameshow so that I can test them on their knowledge of the material.
Regarding different software, wikis such as PB Works are one that is still new to me but I am somewhat warming up to. It allows full control of the information while providing a streamlined approach to the information. However, this does not come without its faults. It does seem to lack in the aesthetic department as well as its functionality with only one person being able to edit a document at a time. I feel as if it had better options and the ability to customize more of the information, it can provide a fuller experience of the state that it is currently in. I would use the wiki to write mini-articles for my students to read or to create summaries of the topics, assignments, and learning materials for my students in a controlled approach.
Hey! I think that would be a great idea from your classroom regarding Kahoot. I have never heard of this tool before. I think that I will look into it further and see if it is pretty universal to different subjects. I don't know what class I will be teaching as of yet. But I will check it out. I think you have a very positive outlook on what your class will be like. Students really need adults who are positive and willing to help them learn and love school!
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your idea to use Kahoot in the classroom. I always loved it when I got to play Kahoot when I was a student and loved it. I did not think about this when I was writing my own blog but will most definitely use it! I love making the classroom a competitive environment and making a gameshow!
ReplyDeleteHi Veep!,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely about PB works when it comes to aesthetics and function in terms of only one person being allowed to edit at a time. However, I think it is an effective platform for one person to use. Although I do not know how to get around the aesthetics issue.
I think the idea of turning your class into a little gameshow is quite nice - honestly even through high school I loved when my math classes would do the "Jeopardy" matches before tests... that was the only way my BC Calc teacher could get me to 'study' lol. I think implementing technology for the purposes of enjoyment is good, since that's something a lot of classrooms seem to lack.
