Blog 9: Powerpoints, Education, and Technology (PET)

I am in EME2040 as an asynchronous student. Something that I liked about this experience is the ability to do my work whenever I could throughout the week without having to worry about it interrupting my work schedule. It feels like the class works with me instead of against me, and having all of the information at my fingertips whenever it is needed really does help. Something that I feel like I could do to help further the classroom experience would be adding helpful reminders or open educational resources around the middle of the week. It would help keep me on track with both the teachings and the assignments.

Speaking of open educational resources, they are open-source instructional materials that can assist an educator such as a teacher or professor with teaching. These resources can be pieces of text, media, or other materials that can give teachers a better understanding of the topic at hand. An example of this would be Christopher Arnett's review of Myths and Trickster Tales, where he goes into detail on how 10th grade English teachers can about myth and provide lesson plans as well as assignments to go along with them.

When considering learning in general, I do believe that I learned a good amount of useful information from Assignment 4. I understood the importance of pacing and words. As someone that tends to over-explain information, it was crucial for me to understand how to make important information concise, easy to understand, yet not boring. Something I still need to improve on is the speaking portion of the assignment since I'm not too used to recording my own voice for things. However, I did my best and I know that with time, that will improve.

  1. Hi! I really enjoyed reading your blog post for this week! I agree that it would be helpful to add reminders in the middle of the week about the lesson and assignments for that week. Sometimes it is hard to remember exactly what needs to get done since it is an asynchronous class and you do not meet with the teacher to remind you about assignments in class.
